About the Awards

Each year, the San Diego Section of APA hosts annual awards to acknowledge important projects and individuals that make our communities great.  The purpose of the awards program is to encourage quality in planning and to increase the public’s awareness of the planning profession through recognizing outstanding achievement in our field.  Each year the San Diego Section APA considers nominations from throughout the San Diego region and Imperial County, in a variety of fields. A call for projects is typically announced in the beginning of the year.  Cities, counties, advocates, and professionals then assemble nominations.  A representative jury is then assembled to consider worthy nominations.  After the jury concludes their work, an award banquet is held to recognize our achievements.  The award banquet is typically held in late spring.

The APA awards program is a year round process and depends on the active participation of all of our members. If you’ve been involved with, or are aware of, a recent worthy planning project or activity, please consider submitting a nomination.  Nominees may also include contributors to the planning field, either professionals, elected officials, or laypersons.
